Stand Firm

This is an anti-racist album.
I started writing it in 2020. It was after I performed one of my poems in reaction to George Floyd's murder. Motivated by this, Boca 45 and I collaborated, giving voice to my personal experiences and views on racism in Britain and further afield.
Fast forward to the completion in 2021, and the saga continues. Further exacerbated by number 10 and it’s ‘politricks’, people are in denial racism exists.
Contrary to this, I am called ‘coon' on the (so say) liberal streets of Bristol, people standing up for their basic rights are condemned for playing ‘gesture politics’ and structural racism persists (globally).

STAND FIRM – Lyrics
Switch the speakers on, sub-woofer and the tweeters on
Cooling out, when the beat is on
When the heat is on, we radiate
Old school radiator, with the heavyweight, we educate
Knowledge emanates, here to innovate
Here to elevate, we in a state
Understatement, we in a state
For what the state states
Either out of touch, or just don’t care
How did it take a pandemic, to see inequalities?
Man that’s pathetic
Ain’t no big news, if ye so called ethnic
Big news Bojo interested
ONE: he severs the best, never the less
TWO: life is a test, life is a quest
THREE: dismissed in the mist, but persist
Through the twists and turns, we resist
STAND FIRM!
Stand firm brother I’m feeling it
Stand firm sister I’m feeling it
Stand firm brother I’m feeling it
Stand firm, don’t turn round
They say go back, but I stand ground
This is my world, so damn it, it’s my town
I won’t hold back, no I won’t go down
This is a showdown, you understand clown?
I may be featherweight, but taking out you heavyweights
Watch me levitate, stresses evaporate
Try to assassinate? Good luck mate
Stand firm, stand ground when we’re feeling the burn
It’s the scorch from the touch, flame flickers and contorts
Distorting the truth, like rappers in a booth
Disguised as the light, but got burnt and abused
Trapping us dudes, sapping us dudes
Industry rules, you’re just a bunch of dicks, measuring tools
Biggest male ego, no real news
They run the business, they went to the same schools
They set the rules, to get us in line
‘Cause they roll in circles of white collar crime
And they roll the dice and gamble with our lives
Hard time for us, but nah they don’t do time
One rule for them and thousands of us crying
A handful of them and thousands of us dying
Not cool, thousands of us, we not buying
A handful of them, STAND FIRM, now we’re flying!
